Week 6: 22 - 28 November 2021

Week Record: 4-0

Overall Record: 17-3. 2nd in Western Conference.

Games Played and Results:

W - 115 - 111 @ San Antonio Spurs

W - 120 - 115 @ Cleveland Cavaliers

W - 118 - 97 @ New York Knicks

W - 113 - 107 @ Brooklyn Nets

I genuinely thought the winning streak would end this week, specifically Saturday in Brooklyn. But no, the streak continues and it's now at 16. The team is 1 game shy of tying the franchise record of 17 consecutive wins, set by the Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire led 06-07 team.

As we discussed last week, you can never count out a Greg Popovich coached team and that was definitely the case last week. The Spurs pushed the Suns right to the end and it took some clutch free throws.

The Cavs game was also closer than I was expecting, with the Suns holding on for a 5 point win.

In the games we thought would be the most difficult of the week, actually turned out quite easy. We controlled both games in New York, making 20-point leads in both. Brooklyn came back to make a challenge in the 4th quarter, but the Knicks had nothing at all.

Superstar Watch (Season stats):

Booker - 23.9 Points, 5.1 Rebounds, 4.7 Assists, 1.0 Steals, 45.8 FG%, 41.0 3PT FG%, 2.8 Turnovers

Chris Paul - 14.5 Points, 4.1 Rebounds, 10.1 Assists, 2.0 Steals 47.2 FG%, 34.9 3PT FG%, 2.3 Turnovers

Scorching Suns:

Devin Booker

What an incredible shooting week for the 2-time All-Star. The 56% from 3 is a mental figure and it isn't because he is shooting less, he took 6.3 attempts per game last week, which is .2 higher than his season average. Is this finally the season that Book realises his potential from 3? If it is, it takes him from being an All-Star player, to an All-NBA player.

As a reward for his efforts he has been named Western Conference Player of the Week!

His stats for the week:

30.0 Points, 2.3 Rebounds, 3.5 Assists, 53.0 FG% & 56.0 3PT FG%.

Deandre Ayton

This week's stats:

15.3 Points, 10.8 Rebounds, 1.0 Assists & 66.7 FG%.

JaVale McGee

This week's stats:

10.8 Points, 9.5 Rebounds, 64.3 FG% in only 16.4 mins per game.

Struggling Suns:

Cameron Payne

Unfortunately Cam is still struggling to re-discover his shooting stroke. His overall FG% has risen to 38%, his 3-point shooting remains down at 22%. Come on Cam, we want you to succeed!

This week's stats:

11.8 Points, 2.0 Rebounds, 3.5 Assists, 38.1 FG% & 22.2% 3PT FG%.

Stat Line of the Week:

Deandre Ayton Vs San Antonio Spurs

Game stat line:

21 Points, 14 Rebounds, 3 Assists, 10/16 FGs (62.5%).

Honourable mentions:

Devin Booker Vs Cleveland Cavaliers

Game stat line:

35 Points, 4 Rebounds, 3 Assists, 14/21 FGs (66.7%), 2/3 3PT FGs (66.7%).

JaVale McGee Vs Cleveland Cavaliers

Game stat line:

13 Points, 12 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 1 Steal, 1 Block, 6/9 FGs (66.7%) in only 20 mins.

Upcoming Games:

We have 3 games this week, including 2 against the Warriors.

The Suns and Warriors hold the 2 best records in the NBA, so it's a true battle of the titans this week. The Warriors games bookend our week, with Detroit visiting the Footprint Center in between.

In facing the Warriors I do see our win streak coming to an end at some point this week. We've had a couple of days to rest after our East road trip, so I'm confident we can come away with the win in the 1st match-up. The Pistons should be an easy game, as long as we continue to play at the level we've displayed throughout the streak.

I think that Friday's game is where we could pick up the loss, as it's the 2nd of a back-to-back. As I've just mentioned, I don't see the Pistons being a tough game, but after that home game, the team will travel to San Francisco for the Warriors game and teams usually travel after the previous game so that they have full day to prepare in the city they're playing in.

So to recap I think we'll win Monday against the Warriors and Thursday against the Pistons, but will lose to the Warriors on Friday.

16 Wins!

After the Suns' 4 wins this week, they are up to 16 straight wins. This is only 1 shy of the franchise record, set by the team in the 06-07 season.

Monty's 100th Win

This week's win against the Cavs was Monty Williams' 100th win as the Suns head coach. Congrats coach and may it be the start of 100's more in the future.

More CP3-ness

Chris Paul hitting a milestone or breaking a record needs it's own dedicated section at this point!

This week he made his 1,500th career 3-pointer and grabbed his 5,000th career rebound.

The 5,000 rebounds makes him the only player in NBA history to have amassed 20,000+ points, 10,000+ assists & 5,000+ rebounds.
