Week 7: 1-7 December
Week Record: 1-1
Overall Record: 13-10. 7th in the Western Conference.
Games Played and Results:
W - 125 - 108 Vs LA Lakers
L - 98 - 117 Vs Houston Rockets
Centre of The Sun
The biggest piece of news impacting us last week was that Book left the Lakers game during the 1st quarter with a groin strain.
He'd been struggling recently, especially from 3-point range and I wonder if he may have been playing with some soreness which has then led to this.
What was disappointing here was that he was having the beginnings of an excellent game, with 11 points and 3 assists before he left the game.
The current prognosis is that he'd be "re-evaluated in a week". This came to us on 3rd December, which means he is missing the Timberwolves game for sure and likely to miss the Thunder game.
Although we lost Book against the Lakers, the team persevered and blew-out the Lakers. The win was fuelled by Villain (Dillon Brooks) and Villain Jr (Collin Gillespie). Dillon carried us through the first 3 quarters, posting 33 points, then Collin took over in the 4th, netting 16 of his career high 28 points, thanks to hitting 4 three's. For the game he made a career high 8 threes.
It always warms my heart beating the Lakers.
We were not so fortunate against the Rockets. We were able to stick around for the 1st quarter, but the rest of the game was a similar story to our 1st matchup with them, where Amen Thompson couldn't be stopped. On top of that Kevin Durant went on a tear across the 2nd and 3rd quarters, only missing 2 shots and scoring 24 points. That essentially put us away for good.
The Suns struggled all night from 3, missing wide open attempts all game. They ended making just 5 of 36 attempts, which is a horrible 13.9%.
A plus in the game though was Jamaree Bouyea, hitting a career high 18 points. He was the only Sun to hit more than 1 three, making 2 of his 3 attempts.
Other Suns Stuff
Book - 17,000 points
Even though he missed most of the game, Book was able to hit another milestone in his career, with his 17,000th point!
Khaman and Rasheer G-League Win
During the larger gap between games, Khaman and Raheer joined the Valley Suns for a game and put up huge numbers, the sort of numbers we've been waiting to see from them in their G-League assignments.
On top of their big stats, Rasheer hit the game winning 3, giving the Valley Suns their 1st win of the season.
Suns Making History
Superstar Watch (Season stats):
Devin Booker - 25.0 Points, 4.3 Rebounds, 6.7 Assists, 1.0 Steals, 45.7 FG%, 31.5 3PT FG% & 3.7 Turnovers

Scorching Suns:
Jamaree Bouyea
Jamaree Bou-Yeah!
With Book being injured and Grayson missing another game, Jamaree was able to get some extra minutes and boy, did he deliver!
He looks poised on the offensive end and definitely doesn't carry himself like a two-way player. He makes smart and assertive plays on that end, then sticks his nose in on the defensive side. The Suns have found a diamond with him.
His 18 points against the Rockets are his new career high!
His stats for the week:
12.5 Points, 1.5 Rebounds, 3.0 Assists, 71.4 FG% & 75.0 3PT FG%
Struggling Suns:
Royce O'Neale
Royce struggled from 3 this week, making only 2 of his 11 attempts. If you've been around for a while you'll know that Royce has up and down stretches like this. Unfortunately, this stretch came as we lost our best player, so right when we needed the extra scoring.
Although his shot has been off, he did contribute well with rebounds and assists against the Lakers.
His stats for the week:
3.0 Points, 4.5 Rebounds, 6.5 Assists, 1.0 Steals, 18.2 FG% & 20.0 3PT FG%
Stat Line(s) of the Week:
Collin Gillespie Vs Los Angeles Lakers
Collin took over this game in the 4th quarter and the Lakers had no way of slowing him down.
He netted a career high 28 points and a career high 8 3-pointers.
This is the 3rd week in a row that Collin has set his career high in points.
Game stat line:
28 Points, 4 Rebounds, 5 Assists, 2 Steals, 10/19 FGs (52.6%) & 8/14 3PT FGs (57.1%)
Rookie Watch (Season stats):
Khaman Maluach - 11 games, 0 starts
1.4 Points, 0.8 Rebounds, 0.1 Assists, 0.0 Steals, 0.4 Blocks, 40.0 FG%, 0.0 3PT FG% & 0.5 Turnovers
Rasheer Fleming - 12 games, 0 starts
2.0 Points, 1.3 Rebounds, 0.2 Assists, 0.3 Steals, 0.2 Blocks, 29.6 FG%, 18.8 3PT FG% & 0.3 Turnovers
Koby Brea - 2 game
2.0 Points, 0.5 Rebounds, 1.0 Assists, 0.0 Steals, 0.0 Blocks, 33.3 FG%, 0.0 3PT FG% & 0.0 Turnovers
Upcoming Games:
With Book being injured, Brooks questionable for the Timberwolves and Allen still working his way back into game shape, this is going to be a tough couple of games.
We've faced both these teams very recently, so not a lot to say in this section. We beat Minnesota previously with a big comeback, so expect them to be more focussed this time and OKC are, well, OKC....
There is a bit of weird schedule this week due to the NBA Cup. If we beat OKC, we'll have a Semi-Final game on Saturday. I personally would rather a loss to OKC, as we'd then get 8 days rest - we need it.
Prediction:
Unfortunately, I foresee 2 losses this week.
